Bilingual Education and Technology Training in Quiché, Guatemala

Project Goal:

To strengthen the training of intercultural, bilingual educators through the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs). This project provides both physical and technological infrastructure to teachers and communities and raises the level of education through training and curriculum development. All project activities aspire to preserve the Mayan linguistic and cultural heritage of the Quiché region while empowering communities to bridge the digital divide.

List of Partners:

EDC staff and dot-EDU partners will ensure above all that project activities will lead to the achievement of the following Program Results:

PR1– Improved access to bilingual education and educational technologies for teachers and community members through the establishment of 12 fully operational Bilingual Education Technology Centers of Excellence, complete with technical support

PR2– Professional development of educators and improved educational quality through teacher training in computer technology, bilingual materials creation and production, and Mayan and local languages, as well as establishment of a bilingual teacher training network

PR3– Development of ICT educational materials about Mayan language and culture

PR4– Increased dialogue and support from the Ministry of Education for the integration of bilingual education technology at the local, regional and national levels.
