SchoolNet Namibia is a non-profit organization dedicated to extending information, education and communication technology to all Namibian schools and educational institutions, using the Internet. LearnLink's Computer-Assisted Teacher Training (CATT) Project is providing education technology support to programs for professional development. Currently, School-Net volunteers have configured and installed four local area networks in Teacher Resource Centers (TRCs): Ongwadiva, Okahandja, Rundu and Katima. Since the organization's inception it has developed a number of educational programs and projects that have actively promoted the effective use of technology in education:
- Insect-a-Thon 1999
In conjunction with the National Museum of Namibia, SchoolNet organized a national competition to catalog 70,000 species of insects housed at the museum. Teams of students from sixteen Namibian schools participated; - Kids on the Block
SchoolNet trains 200 out-of-school youth how to repair and maintain computers and computer networks.
